Project Manager

Are you detail-oriented and enjoy seeing 2D drawings turned into reality?  Do you like to research and use your knowledge to figure out how a project will be completed?  If this sounds like you, we encourage you to look through our website and see the kind of work we do.  At MCS, everything we do is custom, and includes laminate along with solid wood construction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Do take-offs of architectural plans and specs in order to provide accurate quotes to customers
  • Send out for pricing and manage subcontracts for stone and installation
  • Formulate RFI’s to GC and/or architect.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects from inception to delivery, through installation.
  • Analyze job requirements, define scope, and set project timelines for submittals, fabrication, and installation.
  • Review & quality control all submittal/ shop drawings prior to client review.
  • Communicate directly with contractors, architects, vendors, and subcontractors in a professional and timely manner.
  • Know what information needs to be included on the shop drawings, and have the tactful concise writing ability to coordinate this with our customers and employees.
  • Attend meetings as necessary to clarify scope or means of fabrication.
  • Purchase specialty material such as metal, upholstery, glass and other custom components.
  • Coordinate all materials that need to be ordered, and create purchase orders, per vendor.
  • Handle and manage onsite coordination with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Attain and check field measurements, coordinate with other trades to ensure successful installation.
  • Maintain and coordinate material deliveries to ensure project schedules are being met.
  • Prepare pricing and negotiate change orders with the contractor.
  • Drive projects to conclusion on time and on budget while maintaining the standard of quality required by MCS.
  • Addresses and resolves customer issues and complaints.

Supervisory Responsibility:

No direct supervisory duties, though management of projects includes directing project related activities to the project team members.

Preferred Education & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Wood Technology, or related field
  • Knowledge of Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standards

Required Education & Skills:

  • 5+ years experience in architectural millwork or similar industry
  • Able to read architectural drawings/ blue prints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to take initiative

Semi-Skilled Cabinet Maker:

 

MCS Woodworking is a manufacturer of architectural millwork & custom casework primarily within the commercial industry.  Our company has been in business for 25 years, and we are currently seeking a cabinet maker to join our team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates variety of woodworking machines and uses various handtools to fabricate and repair cabinets and custom architectural millwork: Understands architectural drawings and MCS shop drawings to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed.
  • Sets up and operates various woodworking machines, such as but not limited to power saws, jointer, shaper, edgebander, and wide belt sander.
  • Verify and double check all calculations to ensure alignment of doors, hinges and side panels, always using shop drawings for reference
  • Have a knowledge of all equipment necessary for your work
  • Be exact in measurements so that materials will be used efficiently and the projects will meet specifications on the drawings.
  • Be familiar with and install the appropriate hardware, such as hinges catches and drawer pulls, and let the shop foreman know to order replacement materials when needed
  • Glue, fit, and clamp parts and subassemblies together to form complete fixtures.
  • Know and be proficient in many different types if joinery.
  • Sands and scrapes surfaces correctly to prepare articles for finishing.
  • Match materials and grains to create a uniform appearance.
  • Reinforce joints and attachments to maximize sturdiness and durability without compromising aesthetic appeal or functionality
  • Maintains a safe working environment by cleaning work area and disposing of unused and extra materials.
  • Knows veneer terminology and how to fabricate veneers.

Administrative Assistant:

 

MCS Woodworking is a manufacturer of architectural millwork & custom casework primarily within the commercial industry.  Our company has been in business for 25 years, and we are currently seeking an administrative assistant to join our team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support to ensure efficient operation of office.
  • Maintain polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail.
  • Greet and assist visitors by phone or in person.
  • Screening phone calls and routing callers to the appropriate party.
  • Making travel arrangements, such as booking flights, cars, and making hotel and restaurant reservations.
  • Carries out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning etc.
  • Write up quotes, work orders, invoices and purchase orders.
  • Write up change orders as a quote, and put onto work order.
  • Time study each job for time, materials, and profit/ loss.
  • Ensures invoices are submitted and paid in a timely manner.
  • Send out lien waivers, warranties, msds, and care & maintenance close-out documents.
  • Submit samples to customer, as needed, per project.
  • Make out production schedule daily.
  • Order office supplies and stock materials for the shop.
  • Review project invitations, whether to bid or not and enter into spread sheet.
  • Pay bills weekly.
  • Communicate & send out photos along with other marketing documents to website manager.
  • Assist project managers by gathering prices and researching products, as needed.
